Facilitation
The best meetings are those that are well planned, well executed, and define and produce achievable goals. When groups plan for an important meeting or must address critical issues together, facilitation can make those meetings the best use of time possible.
When difficult discussions are necessary, a facilitator who can assist in defining the agenda and keeping the discussion on track is often beneficial. A third person who is neutral can assist in managing emotions, identifying underlying interests and concerns, and keeping discussions focused and on track.
In facilitation, a facilitator, someone familiar with group dynamics and processes, helps groups
- prepare and plan for a meeting
- define issues
- prioritize and discuss goals
- develop and evaluate solutions
- constructively address concerns
- provide room for dissent
- promote sound decision making
- create an action plan to implement solutions and
- conduct follow-up and assessment
Facilitation can be used for many kinds of groups and in numerous settings, including non-profit, corporate, religious, family or small business, community, and more. It can be readily adapted to fit your group and its needs.
